Remotely Proctored Exams: A Student’s Guide and Rulebook
You can post this above link in your UB Learns course.
This student’s guide provides details on how the remotely proctored exams will work:
Course Rules for Remote Proctoring
Workstation Setup
Technology Setup
Zoom Device Placement
Exam Workflow
Checkout & Submission Procedures
You should use these remote proctoring instructions for all quizzes and exams.
It is important to use these for your quizzes as well as your exams. This way students have time to practice the 2-device proctoring setup on lower stakes assessments. This way by the time of your first midterm, all (or most) technical issues have been resolved. This also helps lower student test anxiety on the midterms.
Instructor’s Workflow#
Have Students Practice: Have a practice quiz, and then treat the first couple real quizzes as practice as well. These first quizzes should still be graded, but be a little more lenient with technical issues.
Zoom Links: After the add / drop period ends, you will receive an email containing the Zoom information for your scheduled midterm exam proctoring sessions.
Post Zoom Links: Post this Zoom information for your students on UBLearns. Carefully follow the instructions in this website so that students only see one set of Zoom information.
Create Your Exam on UB Learns: Create your exam or quiz on UB Learns using the instructions on this website. This is where students will see the actual test questions. They will also use UB Learns to upload a video of themselves showing their work to their webcam.
Create Your Exam on Gradescope: This is where students will ultimately submit their work for grading.
Following these steps, by the end of the quiz or exam you will have:
Student Work: All student work submitted on Gradescope and ready for grading.
Integrity Check Video: An individual video for each student on UBLearns of them showing their written work to the camera.
Zoom Master Video: A master video for each Zoom Proctoring Session. This will be the gallery view video showing all students simulaneously.
Midterm Exams: For all students compare the work shown during the integrity check video with the work submitted on Gradescope. Any differences indicate an Academic Integrity Violation.
Quizzes: Depending on the number of students you have, you might do this comparison on a rotating basis: students 1-30 get checked on quiz 1, students 31-60 get checked on quiz 2, and then back to students 1-30 on quiz 3, and so on.
Zoom Master Video: This video can be used to review any academic dishonesty or rule breaking caught by the proctor during the exam. This can also be used as a back-up when comparing student’s work to Gradescope.
