Updates#

The major updates to the exam proctoring procedures from previous years are:

  1. Course Rules: Stronger wording about course rules and student noncompliance.

  2. Microphones ON: Students should have their Zoom microphone turned on during the exam. They should be silent during the exam, unless speaking with the proctor.

    • Why the change? To help prevent someone (person or AI chatbot) from reading aloud the solutions. To help prevent the student from reading aloud the questions, and then having someone (person or AI chatbot) produce the solutions.

  3. Gradescope App: There is now a gradescope app which steps the student through the entire process of generating a pdf file and uploading it - all in one integrated workflow. Office Lens, which was used in the past, is still recommended as a back-up method.

  4. Exams Accessed on UB Learns: Students will now access the exams or quizzes directly on UB Learns. These proctored assessments can still be password-protected.

    • Why the change? Students will use UB Learns to record a checkout video of themselves before they leave the Zoom Proctoring Session.

  5. Zoom Links on UB Learns: Students will now access the Zoom Proctoring Session link and meeting info on UB Learns.

  6. Checkout Procedure: The checkout procedure now includes a video component, where students will record themselves holding up the pages of their work, in addition to the usual checkout procedure.

    • Why the change? This will give instructors a more efficient way to identify cases where students change their work after leaving the Zoom meeting.
